About The Munsters
The Munsters (1964-1966) brought Universal's classic monsters into sitcom suburbia, presenting a family of lovable ghouls—including Frankenstein's monster patriarch Herman, vampire Grandpa, and werewolf son Eddie—who consider themselves perfectly normal while their neighbors are terrified. Fred Gwynne's performance as Herman Munster transformed the Frankenstein monster from horror icon into beloved family man, with his booming laugh and childlike enthusiasm becoming the show's heart. The elaborate makeup and costumes, inspired by Universal's classic films, required hours of daily application but created characters that became as iconic as their inspirations. Though cancelled after just two seasons due to the shift to color television (the makeup was designed for black and white), The Munsters has remained beloved through syndication, spawning multiple revival attempts and a 2022 Rob Zombie film.
