The production was so intense that several crew members quit, and star Bruce Campbell suffered real injuries from the demanding practical effects. Stephen King championed the film after seeing it at Cannes, helping it secure wider distribution. The Evil Dead pioneered the "shaky cam" technique using a wooden plank with a camera mounted on each end, creating the demonic POV shots that would become Raimi's trademark style throughout his career.
